Carl Hamblin Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFEGGFHEIGJKLMNO PEQM

The press of the Spoon River Clarion was wreckedA
And I was tarred and featheredB
For publishing this on the day the Anarchists were hanged in ChicagoC
I saw a beautiful woman with bandaged eyesD
Standing on the steps of a marble templeE
Great multitudes passed in front of herF
Lifting their faces to her imploringlyE
In her left hand she held a swordG
She was brandishing the swordG
Sometimes striking a child again a laborerF
Again a slinking woman again a lunaticH
In her right hand she held a scaleE
Into the scale pieces of gold were tossedI
By those who dodged the strokes of the swordG
A man in a black gown read from a manuscriptJ
'She is no respecter of persons 'K
Then a youth wearing a red capL
Leaped to her side and snatched away the bandageM
And lo the lashes had been eaten awayN
From the oozy eye lidsO
The eye balls were seared with a milky mucusP
The madness of a dying soulE
Was written on her faceQ
But the multitude saw why she wore the bandageM
