Alfred Moir Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRS

Why was I not devoured by self contemptA
And rotted down by indifferenceB
And impotent revolt like Indignation JonesC
Why with all of my errant stepsD
Did I miss the fate of Willard FlukeE
And why though I stood at Burchard's barF
As a sort of decoy for the house to the boysG
To buy the drinks did the curse of drinkH
Fall on me like rain that runs offI
Leaving the soul of me dry and cleanJ
And why did I never kill a manK
Like Jack McGuireL
But instead I mounted a little in lifeM
And I owe it all to a book I readN
But why did I go to Mason CityO
Where I chanced to see the book in a windowP
With its garish cover luring my eyeQ
And why did my soul respond to the bookR
As I read it over and overS
