Alfonso Churchill Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKCHLMNO

They laughed at me as Prof MoonA
As a boy in Spoon River born with the thirstB
Of knowing about the starsC
They jeered when I spoke of the lunar mountainsD
And the thrilling heat and coldE
And the ebon valleys by silver peaksF
And Spica quadrillions of miles awayG
And the littleness of manH
But now that my grave is honored friendsI
Let it not be because I taughtJ
The lore of the stars in Knox CollegeK
But rather for this that through the starsC
I preached the greatness of manH
Who is none the less a part of the scheme of thingsL
For the distance of Spica or the Spiral NebulM
Nor any the less a part of the questionN
Of what the drama meansO
