It was many and many a year agoA
In a kingdom by the seaB
That a maiden there lived whom you may knowA
By the name of ANNABEL LEEB
And this maiden she lived with no other thoughtC
Than to love and be loved by meB
-
I was a child and she was a childD
In this kingdom by the seaB
But we loved with a love that was more than loveE
I and my ANNABEL LEEB
With a love that the winged seraphs of heavenF
Coveted her and meB
-
And this was the reason that long agoA
In this kingdom by the seaB
A wind blew out of a cloud chillingG
My beautiful ANNABEL LEEB
So that her highborn kinsmen cameH
And bore her away from meB
To shut her up in a sepulchreI
In this kingdom by the seaB
-
The angels not half so happy in heavenF
Went envying her and meB
Yes that was the reason as all men knowA
In this kingdom by the seaB
That the wind came out of the cloud by nightJ
Chilling and killing my ANNABEL LEEB
-
But our love it was stronger by far than the loveE
Of those who were older than weB
Of many far wiser than weB
And neither the angels in heaven aboveE
Nor the demons down under the seaB
Can ever dissever my soul from the soulK
Of the beautiful ANNABEL LEEB
-
For the moon never beams without bringing me dreamsL
Of the beautiful ANNABEL LEEB
And the stars never rise but I see the bright eyesM
Of the beautiful ANNABEL LEEB
And so all the night tide I lie down by the sideN
Of my darling my darling my life and my brideN
In her sepulchre there by the seaB
In her tomb by the side of the seaB
