We Need A Few More Optimists Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEF AAGGCCHHII AAJJKKLLMM AANNOOPPKK

We need a few more optimistsA
The kind that double up their fistsA
And set their jaws determined likeB
A blow at infamy to strikeB
Not smiling men who drift alongC
And compromise with every wrongC
Not grinning optimists who cryD
That right was never born to dieD
But optimists who'll fight to giveE
The truth an honest chance to liveF
-
We need a few more optimistsA
For places in our fighting listsA
The kind of hopeful men who makeG
Real sacrifice for freedom's sakeG
The optimist with purpose strongC
Who stands to battle every wrongC
Takes off his coat and buckles inH
The better joys of earth to winH
The optimist who worries lestI
The vile should overthrow the bestI
-
We need a few more optimistsA
The brave of heart that long resistsA
The force of Hate and Greed and lustJ
And keeps in God and man his trustJ
Believing as he makes his fightK
That everything will end all rightK
Yet through the dreary days and nightsL
Unfalteringly serves and fightsL
And helps to gain the joys which heM
Believes are some day sure to beM
-
We need a few more optimistsA
Of iron hearts and sturdy wristsA
Not optimists who smugly smileN
And preach that in a little whileN
The clouds will fade before the sunO
But cheerful men who'll bear a gunO
And hopeful men of courage stoutP
Who'll see disaster round aboutP
And yet will keep their faith and fightK
And gain the victory for rightK
