The kind that double up their fists	A
And set their jaws determined like	B
A blow at infamy to strike	B
Not smiling men who drift along	C
And compromise with every wrong	C
Not grinning optimists who cry	D
That right was never born to die	D
But optimists who'll fight to give	E
The truth an honest chance to live	F

We need a few more optimists	A
For places in our fighting lists	A
The kind of hopeful men who make	G
Real sacrifice for freedom's sake	G
The optimist with purpose strong	C
Who stands to battle every wrong	C
Takes off his coat and buckles in	H
The better joys of earth to win	H
The optimist who worries lest	I
The vile should overthrow the best	I

We need a few more optimists	A
The brave of heart that long resists	A
The force of Hate and Greed and lust	J
And keeps in God and man his trust	J
Believing as he makes his fight	K
That everything will end all right	K
Yet through the dreary days and nights	L
Unfalteringly serves and fights	L
And helps to gain the joys which he	M
Believes are some day sure to be	M

We need a few more optimists	A
Of iron hearts and sturdy wrists	A
Not optimists who smugly smile	N
And preach that in a little while	N
The clouds will fade before the sun	O
But cheerful men who'll bear a gun	O
And hopeful men of courage stout	P
Who'll see disaster round about	P
And yet will keep their faith and fight	K
And gain the victory for right	K
