The Right Family Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEF GGBBHHIIE CCBBIIEE J KKIILMNNOO

With time our notions allus changeA
An' years make old idees seem strangeA
Take Mary there time was when sheB
Thought one child made a familyB
An' when our eldest Jim was bornC
She used to say both night an' morn'C
'One little one to love an' keepD
To guard awake an' watch asleepD
To bring up right an' lead him throughE
Life's path is all we ought to do 'F
-
Two years from then our Jennie cameG
But Mary didn't talk the sameG
'Now that's just right ' she said to meB
'We've got the proper familyB
A boy an' girl God sure is goodH
It seems as though He understoodH
That I've been hopin' every wayI
To have a little girl some dayI
Sometimes I've prayed the whole night throughE
One ain't enough we needed two '-
-
Then as the months went rollin' onC
One day the stork brought little JohnC
An' Mary smiled an' said to meB
'The proper family is threeB
Two boys a girl to romp an' playI
Jus' work enough to fill the dayI
I never had enough to doE
The months that we had only twoE
Three's jus' right pa we don't want more '-
Still time went on an' we had fourJ
-
An' that was years ago I vowK
An' we have six fine children nowK
An' Mary's plumb forgot the dayI
She used to sit an' sweetly sayI
That one child was enough for herL
To love an' give the proper careM
One two or three or four or fiveN
Why goodness gracious sakes aliveN
If God should send her ten to nightO
She'd vow her fam'ly was jus' rightO
