The Obligation Of Friendship Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDD AEDEFF GHIHEE

You ought to be fine for the sake of the folksA
Who think you are fineB
If others have faith in you doubly you're boundC
To stick to the lineB
It's not only on you that dishonor descendsD
You can't hurt yourself without hurting your friendsD
-
You ought to be true for the sake of the folksA
Who believe you are trueE
You never should stoop to a deed that your friendsD
Think you wouldn't doE
If you're false to yourself be the blemish but smallF
You have injured your friends you've been false to them allF
-
For friendship my boy is a bond between menG
That is founded on truthH
It believes in the best of the ones that it lovesI
Whether old man or youthH
And the stern rule it lays down for me and for youE
Is to be what our friends think we are through and throughE
