The Little Old Man Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCC AADDEE FFCCEE GGEEHH IJKKLL

The little old man with the curve in his backA
And the eyes that are dim and the skin that is slackA
So slack that it wrinkles and rolls on his cheeksB
With a thin little voice that goes 'crack ' when he speaksB
Never goes to the store but that right at his feetC
Are all of the youngsters who live on the streetC
-
And the little old man in the suit that was blackA
And once might have perfectly fitted his backA
Has a boy's chubby fist in his own wrinkled handD
And together they trudge off to Light Hearted LandD
Some splendid excursions he gives every dayE
To the boys and the girls in his funny old wayE
-
The little old man is as queer as can beF
He'd spend all his time with a child on his kneeF
And the stories he tells I could never repeatC
But they're always of good boys and little girls sweetC
And the children come home at the end of the dayE
To tell what the little old man had to sayE
-
Once the little old man didn't trudge to the storeG
And the tap of his cane wasn't heard any moreG
The children looked eagerly for him each dayE
And wondered why he didn't come out to playE
Till some of them saw Doctor Brown ring his bellH
And they wept when they heard that he might not get wellH
-
But after awhile he got out with his caneI
And called all the children around him againJ
And I think as I see him go trudging alongK
In the center once more of his light hearted throngK
That earth has no glory that's greater than thisL
The little old man whom the children would missL
