The June Couple Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EEFFGGHH IIJJKKJJ LLMMNNOO PPQQKKRR EESSCCTT

She is fair to see and sweetA
Dainty from her head to feetA
Modest as her blushing showsB
Happy as her smiles discloseB
And the young man at her sideC
Nervously attempts to hideC
Underneath a visage grimD
That the fuss is bothering himD
-
Pause a moment happy pairE
This is not the station whereE
Romance ends and wooing stopsF
And the charm from courtship dropsF
This is but the outward gateG
Where the souls of mortals mateG
But the border of the landH
You must travel hand in handH
-
You who come to marriage bringI
All your tenderness and clingI
Steadfastly to all the waysJ
That have marked your wooing daysJ
You are only starting outK
On life's roadways hedged aboutK
Thick with roses and with taresJ
Sweet delights and bitter caresJ
-
Heretofore you've only playedL
At love's game young man and maidL
Only known it at its bestM
Now you'll have to face its testM
You must prove your love worth whileN
Something time cannot defileN
Something neither care nor painO
Can destroy or mar or stainO
-
You are now about to showP
Whether love is real or noP
Yonder down the lane of lifeQ
You will find as man and wifeQ
Sorrows disappointments doubtK
Hope will almost flicker outK
But if rightly you are wedR
Love will linger where you treadR
-
There are joys that you will shareE
Joys to balance every careE
Arm in arm remain and youS
Will not fear the storms that brewS
If when you are sorest triedC
You face your trials side by sideC
Now your wooing days are doneT
And your loving years begunT
