YE HO for a sight of the land that I loveA
And her flag floating high on the breezeB
Ye ho for a sight of her blue skies aboveA
And the wonderful green of her treesB
For my heart's beating now with expectancy's thrillC
And my eyes show the trace of a tearD
I love every river and valley and hillC
In the land that I've missed for a yearE
-
Then it's home once againF
Where the dear ones awaitG
And it's back in the land of the freeH
And it's back once againF
In my own native stateG
This country's the country for meH
-
The wonders of Egypt the splendors of RomeI
And Italy's charms I have seenJ
But my heart yearns today for the glories of homeI
And the sight of my own native greenJ
For nowhere are skies e'er as tenderly blueK
Nor dews that so tenderly fallL
As here in the land of the free and the trueK
The best land on earth after allL
-
Then it's home once againF
Where the dear ones awaitG
And it's back in the land of the freeH
And it's back once againF
To my own native stateG
This country's the country for meH
-
O nowhere on earth are there women so fairD
Or men quite so noble and braveM
O nowhere are people less burdened with careD
As here where the Stars and Stripes waveM
And nowhere do stars seem so brightly to shineN
Or trees seem to grow quite so tallL
As here in this country I hallow as mineN
The best land on earth after allL
-
Then it's home once againF
Where the dear ones awaitG
And it's back in the land of the freeH
And it's back once againF
To my own native stateG
This country's the country for meH
