The Common Touch Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGHGHIJIJ| I would not be too wise so very wise | A |
| That I must sneer at simple songs and creeds | B |
| And let the glare of wisdom blind my eyes | A |
| To humble people and their humble needs | B |
| I would not care to climb so high that I | C |
| Could never hear the children at their play | D |
| Could only see the people passing by | C |
| Yet never hear the cheering words they say | D |
| I would not know too much too much to smile | E |
| At trivial errors of the heart and hand | F |
| Nor be too proud to play the friend the while | E |
| And cease to help and know and understand | F |
| I would not care to sit upon a throne | G |
| Or build my house upon a mountain top | H |
| Where I must dwell in glory all alone | G |
| And never friend come in or poor man stop | H |
| God grant that I may live upon this earth | I |
| And face the tasks which every morning brings | J |
| And never lose the glory and the worth | I |
| Of humble service and the simple things | J |
