The Common Touch Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGHGHIJIJ

I would not be too wise so very wiseA
That I must sneer at simple songs and creedsB
And let the glare of wisdom blind my eyesA
To humble people and their humble needsB
I would not care to climb so high that IC
Could never hear the children at their playD
Could only see the people passing byC
Yet never hear the cheering words they sayD
I would not know too much too much to smileE
At trivial errors of the heart and handF
Nor be too proud to play the friend the whileE
And cease to help and know and understandF
I would not care to sit upon a throneG
Or build my house upon a mountain topH
Where I must dwell in glory all aloneG
And never friend come in or poor man stopH
God grant that I may live upon this earthI
And face the tasks which every morning bringsJ
And never lose the glory and the worthI
Of humble service and the simple thingsJ
