The Boy And The Flag Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGDGD HIHIJDJD KLKMNDND

I want my boy to love his homeA
His Mother yes and meB
I want him wheresoe'er he'll roamA
With us in thought to beB
I want him to love what is fineC
Nor let his standards dragD
But Oh I want that boy of mineC
To love his country's flagD
-
I want him when he older growsE
To love all things of earthF
And Oh I want him when he knowsE
To choose the things of worthF
I want him to the heights to climbG
Nor let ambition lagD
But Oh I want him all the timeG
To love his country's flagD
-
I want my boy to know the bestH
I want him to be greatI
I want him in Life's distant WestH
Prepared for any fateI
I want him to be simple tooJ
Though clever ne'er to bragD
But Oh I want him through and throughJ
To love his country's flagD
-
I want my boy to be a manK
And yet in distant yearsL
I pray that he'll have eyes that canK
Not quite keep back the tearsM
When coming from some foreign shoreN
And alien scenes that fagD
Borne on its native breeze once moreN
He sees his country's flagD
