Rhyme Scheme: ABCDCD EFEFGHGI JKGKDLDL MNMNODOD B BLPLP

over there at Heaven's gateA
Is all the joy that I shall knowB
Not for the joys to be am IC
Seeking the better truer wayD
All pleasure's not beyond the skyC
For I have my reward each dayD
-
I hope for Heaven and all it meansE
And hope to hear the Master tellF
When I have quit these earthly scenesE
That I have truly toiled and wellF
But not alone for that I striveG
To keep my soul unspotted hereH
Honor has joys for all aliveG
That are as infinitely dearI
-
What can the great hereafter giveJ
More precious than my children's loveK
When I on earth shall cease to liveG
And go to join the realms aboveK
Were there no future then I sayD
I still should strive to faithful beL
That they would run at close of dayD
With loving arms to welcome meL
-
A baby's kiss a faithful wifeM
And friends who trust are not these allN
Rewards that honor earns in lifeM
Although your hoard of gold be smallN
And though there were no future wouldO
You still not journey on your wayD
Striving as ever to be goodO
Just for the joys you know todayD
-
And so I say not ' over there '-
Do I sit sighing ' I shall knowB
The perfect bliss with ne'er a care '-
The perfect bliss is here belowB
Nor do I dream of joys to beL
And wail the cares that now are mineP
Earth's glories now appeal to meL
And this life is almost divineP
