After A Proposal Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GHIHJKLK MNONPQPQ

IS IT so sudden Then did you believe dearA
Those evenings I called at your flatB
And lovingly longingly gazed in your eyesC
That I merely had come for a chatB
Did it strike you the times that I lingered till twelveD
And hated to leave you aloneE
I was doing that merely to fill up my timeF
Because I 'd no home of my ownE
-
So sudden you say Yet for years I have stoodG
On your doorstep each evening at eightH
Did you think I had come for a chat with your maI
Or a word with your maiden aunt KateH
Did you think when I sighed as I fondled your handJ
'T was dyspepsia that troubled me thenK
Or that the cigars I bestowed on your dadL
Were smokes I would give to all menK
-
O the tickets for shows I have purchased for youM
The automobiles I have hiredN
The lockets and bracelets and purses and thingsO
All gifts that I knew you desiredN
That I tenderly laid at your feet as a shrineP
Though each cost me a half a week's payQ
I thought that my actions betrayed my designP
And yet 'It's so sudden ' you sayQ
