Defensive Measures Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACCDDDEEFGHIJKLL

According to the witches' planA
All life whose blood did not run trueB
Must be excluded from the brewB
Each earthly thing from snail to manA
And every mammal of the seaC
Was for that night an enemyC
And so the smith from ocean hoardsD
Had gathered masts and spars and boardsD
Of ships with cutlasses and swordsD
And countless pikes and spears and madeE
With them a towering palisadeE
And to the top thereof was sentF
To guard the brew a warriorG
The bravest of the ranks of warH
And deaf to bribe or argumentI
To neither shark nor swordfish fellJ
The honours of the sentinelK
For of all fighters there the starL
Was Tom the cat from ZanzibarL
