Prayer In Time Of War Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCC DDEECC FFGGCC HHIICC

Now Death is near and very nearA
In this wild whirl of horror and fearA
When round the vessel of our StateB
Roll the great mountain waves of hateB
God We have but one prayer to dayC
O Father teach us how to prayC
-
For prayer is strong and very strongD
But we have turned from Thee so longD
To follow gods that have no powerE
Save in the safe and sordid hourE
That to Thy feet we have lost the wayC
O Father teach us how to prayC
-
We have done ill and very illF
Set up our will against Thy willF
That our soft lives might gorge full fedG
We stole our brothers' daily breadG
Lord we are sorry we went astrayC
O Father teach us how to prayC
-
Now in this hour of desperate strifeH
For England's life her very lifeH
Teach us to pray that life may beI
A new life beautiful to TheeI
And in Thy hands that life to layC
O Father teach us how to prayC
