From The Italian Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CBCB DEDE

As a little child whom his mother has chiddenA
Wrecked in the dark in a storm of weepingB
Sleeps with his tear stained eyes closed hiddenA
And with fists clenched sobs still in his sleepingB
-
So in my breast sleeps Love O white ladyC
What does he care though the rest are playingB
With rattles and drums in the woodlands shadyC
Happy children whom Joy takes mayingB
-
Ah do not wake him lest you should hear himD
Scolding the others breaking their rattlesE
Smashing their drums when their play comes near himD
Love who for me is a god of battlesE
