Gina M Montoya: My father, Jose Montoya, had me memorize this poem at the age of 4 (1959)! It was the summer before I started kindergarten. Pretty dark for a young girl. The immediate effect was great delight by my teachers--in me and my handsome father, a young college student at the College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, CA. It came to have the most profound meaning years after his death-with each line an answer to my unasked questions. He was a visual artist, songwriter/singer, guitarist, high school teacher, college professor, civil rights activist, and Poet Laureate of Sacramento. He shared his love of Dylan Thomas with me and Dylan will always be a part of our story!
