The Hand That Signed The Paper Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCE CFCF GHGI

The hand that signed the paper felled a cityA
Five sovereign fingers taxed the breathB
Doubled the globe of dead and halved a countryA
These five kings did a king to deathB
-
The mighty hand leads to a sloping shoulderC
The finger joints are cramped with chalkD
A goose's quill has put an end to murderC
That put an end to talkE
-
The hand that signed the treaty bred a feverC
And famine grew and locusts cameF
Great is the hand that holds dominion overC
Man by a scribbled nameF
-
The five kings count the dead but do not softenG
The crusted wound nor pat the browH
A hand rules pity as a hand rules heavenG
Hands have no tears to flowI
