Poem For Wei Ba Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCCDEFGHFIJKLMENOP QRSTUVWVXEPUYZA2SB2D

Often a man's life is suchA
that he seldom sees his friendsB
like the constellations Shen and ShangC
which never share the same skyC
If not this evening then what eveningC
should we share this lamp lightD
How long can our youth and vigor lastE
The hair at our temples is already grayF
We inquire about old acquaintancesG
to find that half are ghostsH
shocked cries betrayF
the torment of our heartsI
How could I have knownJ
that it would be twenty yearsK
before I again enteredL
your honored homeM
When we parted lastE
you were yet unmarriedN
now your sons and daughtersO
line up in a smiling rowP
to greet their father's friendQ
They ask whence I have comeR
but before I can answer all questionsS
you chase them offT
to bring wine and cupsU
In the night rain chives are cutV
for the freshly steamed riceW
mixed with yellow milletV
Saying how difficult it has beenX
for us to meet at lastE
you pour ten cups in a rowP
But even after ten cupsU
I'm not drunk being so movedY
by your lasting friendshipZ
Tomorrow we will be separatedA2
by the peaks of mountainsS
each of our worldly affairsB2
lost to the other's sightD
