Olives Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFGHIJK LMNIOPA GQRSTUV WXYVZA2B2V

Dead people don't like olivesA
I told my partners in eighth gradeB
dancing class who never listenedC
as we fox trotted one two one twoD
-
The dead people I often consultedE
nodded their skulls in unisonF
while I flung my black velvet capeG
over my shoulders and gloweredH
from deep set burning eyesI
walking the city streets alone at fifteenJ
crazy for cheerleaders and poemsK
-
At Hamden High football games girlsL
in short pleated skirtsM
pranced and kicked and I longedN
for their memorable thighsI
They were friendly poets were mascotsO
but never listened when I told themP
that dead people didn't like olivesA
-
Instead the poet wearing his capeG
continued to prowl in solitudeQ
intoning inscrutable stanzasR
as halfbacks and tacklesS
made out Friday nights after footballT
on sofas in dark walled rec roomsU
with magnanimous cheerleadersV
-
But decades later when the deadW
have stopped blatheringX
about olives obese halfbacks wheezeY
upstairs to sleep beside cheerleadersV
waiting for hip replacementsZ
while a lascivious doddering poetA2
his burning eyes deep setB2
in wrinkles cavorts with their daughtersV
