The Explorers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDD AEFEBGHGIJKJ LMNNM OPQPRBAB

And some still cry What is the useA
The service rendered What the gainB
Heroic yes but in what causeC
Have they made less one earth borne painB
Broadened the bounded spirit's scopeD
Or died to make the dull world hopeD
-
Must man still be the slave of UseA
But these men careless and elateE
Join battle with a burly worldF
Or come to wrestling grips with fateE
And not for any good nor gainB
Nor any fame that may befallG
But thrilling in the clutch of lifeH
Heed the loud challenge and the callG
And grown to symbols at the lastI
Stand in heroic silhouetteJ
Against horizons ultimateK
As towers that front lost seas are setJ
-
The reckless gesture the strong poseL
Sharp battle cry flung back to EarthM
And buoyant humor as a godN
Might say Lo here my feet have trodN
There lies the meaning and the worthM
-
They bring no golden treasure homeO
They win no acres for their clanP
Nor dream nor deed of theirs shall mendQ
The ills of man's bedeviled spanP
Nor are they skilled in sleights of speechR
Nor overeager to make plainB
The use they serve transcending useA
The gain beyond apparent gainB
