The Butchers At Prayer Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CBCB DBDB

Each nation as it draws the swordA
And flings its standard to the airB
Petitions piously the LordA
Vexing the void abyss with prayerB
-
O irony too deep for mirthC
O posturing apes that rant and dareB
This antic attitude O EarthC
With your wild jest of wicked prayerB
-
I dare not laugh a rising swellD
Of laughter breaks in shrieks somewhereB
No doubt they relish it in HellD
This cosmic jest of Earth at prayerB
