Sic Transit Gloria Mundi Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDB ECFC CCGC HIJI CKLK LMLM

Conquerors leonine lordlyA
Princes and vaunting kingsB
Ye are drunk with the sound of your braggartC
trumpsD
But lo ye are little thingsB
-
Earth it is charnel with monarchsE
And the puffs of dust that startC
Where your war steeds stamp with their ringing hoofsF
Were each some warrior's heartC
-
Peoples imperial mightyC
Masterful challenging fateC
The tread of your cohorts shakes the hillsG
But lo ye are not greatC
-
Nations that swarm and murmurH
Ye are moths that flutter and climbI
Ye are whirling gnats ye are swirling beesJ
Tossed in the winds of timeI
-
Earth that is flushed with gloryC
A marvelous world ye areK
But lo in the midst of a million starsL
Ye are only one pale starK
-
A breath stirs the dark abyssesL
The deeps below the deepM
Are troubled and vexed and a thousand worldsL
Fall on eternal sleepM
