Cease to call him sad and sober	A
Merriest of months October	A
Patron of the bursting bins	B
Reveler in wayside inns	B
I can nowhere find a trace	C
Of the pensive in his face	C
There is mingled wit and folly	D
But the madcap lacks the grace	C
Of a thoughtful melancholy	D
Spendthrift of the seasons' gold	E
How he flings and scatters out	F
Treasure filched from summer time	G
Never ruffling squire of old	E
Better loved a tavern bout	F
When Prince Hal was in his prime	G
Doublet slashed with gold and green	H
Cloak of crimson changeful sheen	H
Of the dews that gem his breast	I
Frosty lace about his throat	J

With the chuckle chirp and trill	R
Of his jolly brooks that spill	R
Mirth in tangled madrigals	Q
