The Great Black Heron Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCABDECFGCHIJCCKALK KCCMCA

Since I stroll in the woods more oftenA
than on this frequented path it's usuallyB
trees I observe but among fellow humansC
what I like best is to see an old womanA
fishing alone at the end of a jettyB
hours on end plainly contentD
The Russians mushroom hunting after a rainE
trail after themselves a world of red sarafansC
nightingales samovars stoves to sleep onF
though without doubt those are notG
what they can remember Vietnamese familiesC
fishing or simply sitting as close as they canH
to the water make me recall that lake in HanoiI
in the amber light our first jet lagged eveningJ
peace in the war we had come to witnessC
This woman engaged in her pleasure evokesC
an entire culture tenacious field flowerK
growing itself among the rows of cottonA
in red earth country under the feetL
of mules and masters I see herK
a barefoot child by a muddy riverK
learning her skill with the pole What battlesC
has she survived what laborsC
She's gathered up all the time in the worldM
nothing else and waits for scanty trophiesC
complete in herself as a heronA
