In California During The Gulf War Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABC DEF GHH DDI JKL DMNO PQR STP UVO

Among the blight killed eucalypts amongA
trees and bushes rusted by Christmas frostsB
the yards and hillsides exhausted by five years of droughtC
-
certain airy white blossoms punctuallyD
reappeared and dense clusters of pale pink dark pinkE
a delicate abundance They seemedF
-
like guests arriving joyfully on the accustomedG
festival day unaware of the year's events not perceivingH
the sackcloth others were wearingH
-
To some of us the dejected landscape consorted wellD
with our shame and bitterness Skies ever blueD
daily sunshine disgusted us like smile buttonsI
-
Yet the blossoms clinging to thin branchesJ
more lightly than birds alert for flightK
lifted the sunken heartL
-
even against its willD
But notM
as symbols of hope they were flimsyN
as our resistance to the crimes committedO
-
again again in our name and yes they returnP
year after year and yes they briefly shone with serene joyQ
over against the dark glareR
-
of evil days They are and their presenceS
is quietness ineffable and the bombings are wereT
no doubt will be that quiet that huge cacophanyP
-
simultaneous No promise was being accorded the blossomsU
were not doves there was no rainbow And when it was claimedV
the war had ended it had not endedO
