Contraband Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEDDBFDGHIJAKLMDE NOPF

The tree of knowledge was the tree of reasonA
That's why the taste of itB
drove us from Eden That fruitC
was meant to be dried and milled to a fine powderD
for use a pinch at a time a condimentE
God had probably planned to tell us laterD
about this new pleasureD
We stuffed our mouths full of itB
gorged on i but i and i if i and i how i and againF
i but i knowing no betterD
It's toxic in large quantities fumesG
swirled in our heads and around usH
to form a dense cloud that hardened to steelI
a wall between us and God Who was ParadiseJ
Not that God is unreasonable but reasonA
in such excess was tyrannyK
and locked us into its own limits a polished cellL
reflecting our own faces God livesM
on the other side of that mirrorD
but through the slit where the barrier doesn'tE
quite touch ground manages stillN
to squeeze in as filtered lightO
splinters of fire a strain of music heardP
then lost then heard againF
