A Time Past Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFF GHIJKLMNN NOPQNRSFNTUVWXY

The old wooden steps to the front doorA
where I was sitting that fall morningB
when you came downstairs just awakeC
and my joy at sight of you emergingB
into golden dayD
the dew almost frostE
pulled me to my feet to tell youF
how much I loved youF
-
-
those wooden stepsG
are gone now decayedH
replaced with graniteI
hard gray and handsomeJ
The old steps liveK
only in meL
my feet and thighsM
remember them and my handsN
still feel their splintersN
-
-
Everything else about and around that houseN
brings memories of others of marriageO
of my son And the steps do too I recallP
sitting there with my friend and her little son who diedQ
or was it the second one who lives and thrivesN
And sitting there in my life often alone or with my husbandR
Yet that one instantS
your cheerful unafraid youthful I love you tooF
the quiet broken by no bird no cricket gold leavesN
spinning in silence down withoutT
any breeze to blow themU
is what twines itselfV
in my head and body across those slabs of woodW
that were warm ancient and nowX
wait somewhere to be burntY
