June Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHI AJEKLMNOPD QRSHTUVE

The blue forest chilled and blue like the lips of the deadA
if the lips were gone The year has been cut in halfB
with dull scissors the solstice still looking for its squareC
on the calendar Perhaps the scissors were reallyD
lawn mowers or hoes Perhaps God's calendar is ChineseE
As first I didn't understand those burlap dollsF
slouched in Central Pennsylvania craft storesG
Where were the button eyes the tiny pearl nostrilsH
the smudgy pink watercolor cheeksI
-
I enter the woods part Gretel part Little RedA
Such a small patch of sun makes it to the groundJ
through the leaves The tree trunks are all elbows and kneesE
all arthritis and gripes The Amish think it's wrongK
to render nature quilts abstracting each pattern's nameL
of tree buggy corn horse farmM
My uncle not Amish but superstitious holds his palmN
to the camera in a Christmas photo Before she diedO
my grandmother ripped up all the pictures of herselfP
She liked a novel with mystery magazines without nudityD
-
The boy was killed by a drunk driver My Amish neighborsQ
forgive I prefer seeing it all the snot the optical nerve the liverR
behind the belly's skin I prefer a good fightS
a wailing of grief The Farmers' Market sells applesH
as red as tricycles The dolls without facesT
want it silent The forest all anger and yesterdayU
newspapers blank as white cotton sheetsV
the branches the teeth the awful veesE
