Subway Wind Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGHGHFar down down through the city's great gaunt gut | A |
The gray train rushing bears the weary wind | B |
In the packed cars the fans the crowd's breath cut | A |
Leaving the sick and heavy air behind | B |
And pale cheeked children seek the upper door | C |
To give their summer jackets to the breeze | D |
Their laugh is swallowed in the deafening roar | C |
Of captive wind that moans for fields and seas | D |
Seas cooling warm where native schooners drift | E |
Through sleepy waters while gulls wheel and sweep | F |
Waiting for windy waves the keels to lift | E |
Lightly among the islands of the deep | F |
Islands of lofty palm trees blooming white | G |
That lend their perfume to the tropic sea | H |
Where fields lie idle in the dew drenched night | G |
And the Trades float above them fresh and free | H |
