Memorial Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ KLKL

Your body was a sacred cell alwaysA
A jewel that grew dull in garish lightB
An opal which beneath my wondering gazeA
Gleamed rarely softly throbbing in the nightB
-
I touched your flesh with reverential handsC
For you were sweet and timid like a flowerD
That blossoms out of barren tropic sandsC
Shedding its perfume in one golden hourD
-
You yielded to my touch with gentle graceE
And though my passion was a mighty waveF
That buried you beneath its strong embraceE
You were yet happy in the moment's graveF
-
Still more than passion consummate to meG
More than the nuptials immemorial sungH
Was the warm thrill that melted me to seeG
Your clean brown body beautiful and youngH
-
The joy in your maturity at lengthI
The peace that filled my soul like cooling wineJ
When you responded to my tender strengthI
And pressed your heart exulting into mineJ
-
How shall I with such memories of youK
In coarser forms of love fruition findL
No I would rather like a ghost pursueK
The fairy phantoms of my lonely mindL
