Commemoration Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF ABAB

When first your glory shone upon my faceA
My body kindled to a mighty flameB
And burnt you yielding in my hot embraceA
Until you swooned to love breathing my nameB
-
And wonder came and filled our night of sleepC
Like a new comet crimsoning the skyD
And stillness like the stillness of the deepC
Suspended lay as an unuttered sighD
-
I never again shall feel your warm heart flushedE
Panting with passion naked unto mineF
Until the throbbing world around is hushedE
To quiet worship at our scented shrineF
-
Nor will your glory seek my swarthy faceA
To kindle and to change my jaded frameB
Into a miracle of godlike graceA
Transfigured bathed in your immortal flameB
