Farewell To Eros Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBC CDDC ECCE FGHF IJJI FKKF CCCC LAAL

Lord of the many pangs the single ecstasyA
From all my rose red temple builded in thy nameB
Pass dawnward with no blasphemies of praise or blameB
No whine of suppliant or moan of psalteryC
-
Not now the weary god deserts the worshipperC
The worshipper the god but in some cryptic roomD
A tocsin tells with arras deadened tones of doomD
That hour which veils the shrine and stills the choristerC
-
Others will make libation chant thy litaniesE
But when the glamored moons on immost Stygia glareC
And quenchlessly the demon calling altars flareC
I shall go forth to madder gods and mysteriesE
-
And through Zothique and primal Thule wanderingF
A pilgrim to the shrines where elder Shadows dwellG
Perhaps I shall behold such lusters visibleH
As turn to ash the living opal of thy wingF
-
Haply those islands where the sunsets sink in restI
Will yield O Love the slumber that thou hast not givenJ
Or the broad bosomed flowers of some vermilion heavenJ
Will make my senses fail as on no mortal breastI
-
Perchance the wind on Aquilonian marches blowingF
From the low mountains isled in seaas of russet grassK
Will make among the reeds a sweeter shuddering passK
Than tremors through the chorded flesh of women flowingF
-
Perchance the fountains of the dolorous rivers fourC
In Dis will quench the thirst thy wine assuages neverC
And in my veins will mount a twice infuriate feverC
When the black burning noons upon Cimmeria pourC
-
Yea in those ultimate lands that will outlast the EarthL
Being but dream and fable myth and fantasyA
I shall forget or find some image reared of theeA
Dreadful and radiant far from death remote from birthL
