The Thread Of Life Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

The irresponsive silence of the landB
The irresponsive sounding of the seaC
Speak both one message of one sense to meC
Aloof aloof we stand aloof so standB
Thou too aloof bound with the flawless bandB
Of inner solitude we bind not theeC
But who from thy self chain shall set thee freeC
What heart shall touch thy heart what hand thy handB
And I am sometimes proud and sometimes meekD
And sometimes I remember days of oldE
When fellowship seemed not so far to seekD
And all the world and I seemed much less coldE
And at the rainbow's foot lay surely goldE
And hope felt strong and life itself not weakD
Thus am I mine own prison EverythingF
Around me free and sunny and at easeG
Or if in shadow in a shade of treesG
Which the sun kisses where the gay birds singF
And where all winds make various murmuringF
Where bees are found with honey for the beesG
Where sounds are music and where silencesH
Are music of an unlike fashioningF
Then gaze I at the merrymaking crewI
And smile a moment and a moment sighJ
Thinking Why can I not rejoice with youI
But soon I put the foolish fancy byJ
I am not what I have nor what I doI
But what I was I am I am even IJ
Therefore myself is that one only thingF
I hold to use or waste to keep or giveK
My sole possession every day I liveL
And still mine own despite Time's winnowingF
Ever mine own while moons and seasons bringF
From crudeness ripeness mellow and sanativeL
Ever mine own till Death shall ply his sieveL
And still mine own when saints break grave and singF
And this myself as king unto my KingF
I give to Him Who gave Himself for meC
Who gives Himself to me and bids me singF
A sweet new song of His redeemed set freeC
He bids me sing O death where is thy stingF
And sing O grave where is thy victoryC
