Tears keep falling unintentionallyA
All I do is look at the empty roomB
Where there used to be blissC
Now I hear the rain drops from the pores of the roofD

Where did the spectrum goE
The arts and the antiquesF
Where is the life I used to knowE
And where are you through all thisC
-
It s not where it used to beA
I see green and dirtG
You re not where you used to beA
It stinks the odor of your shirtG

Will it fold or fallH
Still trying to keep all of the pastI
It breaks me and bitterness ringsJ
Despair won t stay far from meA

Poet's note: Where I used to be is a story of a person being eaten up by the bitterness of the past, still not wanting to let go. Even when the memories don’t come with colors anymore and everything that used to be falls apart, the character still stays, where it used to be.

MR KEITH YATES: This poem speaks, to me, of a truth about not being worthy of a loved one if the love does not keep away despair.
Keith Yates: I have never commented on a poem before but I have recently been drawn to poetry as ive written a couple.
If the you in this poem is his loved one, then the poem speaks a truth about not feeling worthy of a love that does not save you from despair. Or maybe that's just me.
