Even of all hope but shelter in the grave | D |
Still shall the plaintive lyre essay its powers | E |
To dress the cave of Care with Fancy's flowers | E |
Maternal Love the fiend Despair withstand | F |
Still animate the heart and guide the hand | F |
May you dear objects of my anxious care | G |
Escape the evils I was born to bear | G |
Round my devoted head while tempests roll | H |
Yet there where I have treasured up my soul | H |
May the soft rays of dawning hope impart | I |
Reviving patience to my fainting heart | I |
And when its sharp solicitudes shall cease | J |
May I be conscious in the realms of peace | J |
That every tear which swells my children's eyes | K |
From sorrows past not present ills arise | K |
Then with some friend who loves to share your pain | L |
For 'tis my boast that some such friends remain | L |
By filial grief and fond remembrance prest | M |
You'll seek the spot where all my sorrows rest | M |
Recall my hapless days in sad review | N |
The long calamities I bore for you | N |
And with a happier fate resolve to prove | O |
