Sonnet Xxxviii. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCBCBCBDDEDEE

FROM THE NOVEL OF EMMELINEA
WHEN welcome slumber sets my spirit freeB
Forth to fictitious happiness it fliesC
And where Elysian bowers of bliss ariseC
I seem my Emmeline to meet with theeB
Ah Fancy then dissolving human tiesC
Gives me the wishes of my soul to seeB
Tears of fond pity fill thy soften'd eyesC
In heavenly harmony our hearts agreeB
Alas these joys are mine in dreams aloneD
When cruel Reason abdicates her throneD
Her harsh return condemns me to complainE
Through life unpitied unrelieved unknownD
And as the dear delusions leave my brainE
She bids the truth recur with aggravated painE
