Sonnet Xxxi. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCBCCBBBDEDEFF| Written on Farm Wood South Downs May | A |
| SPRING'S dewy hand on this fair summit weaves | B |
| The downy grass with tufts of Alpine flowers | C |
| And shades the beechen slopes with tender leaves | B |
| And leads the shepherd to his upland bowers | C |
| Strewn with wild thyme while slow descending showers | C |
| Feed the green ear and nurse the future sheaves | B |
| Ah blest the hind whom no sad thought bereaves | B |
| Of the gay Season's pleasures All his hours | B |
| To wholesome labour given or thoughtless mirth | D |
| No pangs of sorrow past or coming dread | E |
| Bend his unconscious spirit down to earth | D |
| Or chase calm slumbers from his careless head | E |
| Ah what to me can those dear days restore | F |
| When scenes could charm that now I taste no more | F |
