Sonnet Xxxi. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBCCBBBDEDEFF

Written on Farm Wood South Downs MayA
SPRING'S dewy hand on this fair summit weavesB
The downy grass with tufts of Alpine flowersC
And shades the beechen slopes with tender leavesB
And leads the shepherd to his upland bowersC
Strewn with wild thyme while slow descending showersC
Feed the green ear and nurse the future sheavesB
Ah blest the hind whom no sad thought bereavesB
Of the gay Season's pleasures All his hoursB
To wholesome labour given or thoughtless mirthD
No pangs of sorrow past or coming dreadE
Bend his unconscious spirit down to earthD
Or chase calm slumbers from his careless headE
Ah what to me can those dear days restoreF
When scenes could charm that now I taste no moreF
