Sonnet Xxxi. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCBCCBBBDEDEFFWritten on Farm Wood South Downs May | A |
SPRING'S dewy hand on this fair summit weaves | B |
The downy grass with tufts of Alpine flowers | C |
And shades the beechen slopes with tender leaves | B |
And leads the shepherd to his upland bowers | C |
Strewn with wild thyme while slow descending showers | C |
Feed the green ear and nurse the future sheaves | B |
Ah blest the hind whom no sad thought bereaves | B |
Of the gay Season's pleasures All his hours | B |
To wholesome labour given or thoughtless mirth | D |
No pangs of sorrow past or coming dread | E |
Bend his unconscious spirit down to earth | D |
Or chase calm slumbers from his careless head | E |
Ah what to me can those dear days restore | F |
When scenes could charm that now I taste no more | F |
