Sonnet Xxix. To Miss C---- Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCDEEFCEGHGHGH

On being desired to attempt writing a ComedyA
-
WOULD'ST thou then have me tempt the comic sceneB
Of gay Thalia used so long to treadC
The gloomy paths of sorrow's cypress shadeD
And the lorn lay with sighs and tears to stainE
Alas how much unfit her sprightly veinE
Arduous to try and seek the sunny meadF
And bowers of roses where she loves to leadC
The sportive subjects of her golden reignE
Enough for me if still to sooth my daysG
Her fair and pensive sister condescendH
With tearful smile to bless my simple laysG
Enough if her soft notes she sometimes lendH
To gain for me of feeling hearts the praiseG
And chiefly thine my ever partial friendH
