Sonnet Xxiii. By The Same. To The North Star. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCEFGFGHH

TO thy bright beams I turn my swimming eyesA
Fair favourite planet which in happier daysB
Saw my young hopes ah faithless hopes ariseA
And on my passion shed propitious raysB
Now nightly wandering 'mid the tempests drearC
That howl the woods and rocky steeps amongD
I love to see thy sudden light appearC
Through the swift clouds driven by the wind alongE
Or in the turbid water rude and darkF
O'er whose wild stream the gust of Winter ravesG
Thy trembling light with pleasure still I markF
Gleam in faint radiance on the foaming wavesG
So o'er my soul short rays of reason flyH
Then fade and leave me to despair and dieH
