Sonnet V. To The South Downs Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEDEFGFGHIAH hills beloved where once a happy child | A |
Your beechen shades 'your turf your flowers among ' | B |
I wove your blue bells into garlands wild | A |
And woke your echoes with my artless song | C |
Ah hills beloved your turf your flowers remain | D |
But can they peace to this sad breast restore | E |
For one poor moment soothe the sense of pain | D |
And teach a breaking heart to throb no more | E |
And you Aruna in the vale below | F |
As to the sea your limpid waves you bear | G |
Can you one kind Lethean cup bestow | F |
To drink a long oblivion to my care | G |
Ah no when all e'en Hope's last ray is gone | H |
There's no oblivion but in death alone | I |
