Love And Folly Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCCD EEFGGFHHIFJI KKLMNLOPQRRQ SSTUU

LOVE who now deals to human heartsA
Such ill thrown yet resistless dartsA
That hapless mortals can't withstand themB
Was once less cruel and perverseC
Nor did he then his shafts disperseC
So much at randomD
-
It happened that the thoughtless childE
Was rambling thro' a flowery wildE
Like idle lad in school vacationF
Where sauntering now and now at restG
Stroll'd Folly who to Love address'dG
His conversationF
On trifles he had much to sayH
Then laughing he propos'd to playH
And stake against Love's bow his baubleI
The quiver'd gamester smil'd and wonF
But testy Folly soon beganJ
To fret and squabbleI
-
Loud and more loud the quarrel growsK
From words the wranglers went to blowsK
For Folly's rage is prompt to riseL
Till bleeding Love a martyr stoodM
A stroke from Folly's weapon rudeN
Put out his eyesL
Then wild with anguish Venus pray'dO
For vengeance on the idiot's headP
And begg'd of cloud compelling JoveQ
His swiftest lightening to destroyR
The mischievous malignant boyR
That blinded LoveQ
-
'Folly is immortal ' Jove repliedS
'But tho' your prayer must be deniedS
'An endless penance is decreed himT
'For Love tho' blind will reign aroundU
'The world but still where ever foundU
'Folly shall lead him '-
