Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIK LBLB MNMNO come O come the mother pray'd | A |
And hush'd her babe let me behold | B |
Once more thy stately form array'd | A |
Like autumn woods in green and gold | B |
- | |
I see thy brethren come and go | C |
Thy peers in stature and in hue | D |
Thy rivals Same like monarchs glow | C |
With richest purple some are blue | D |
- | |
As skies that tempt the swallow back | E |
Or red as seen o'er wintry seas | F |
The star of storm or barr'd with black | E |
And yellow like the April bees | F |
- | |
Come they and go I heed not I | G |
Yet others hail their advent cling | H |
All trustful to their side and fly | G |
Safe in their gentle piloting | H |
- | |
To happy homes on heath or hill | I |
By park or river Still I wait | J |
And peer into the darkness still | I |
Thou com'st not I am desolate | K |
- | |
Hush hark I see a towering form | L |
From the dim distance slowly roll'd | B |
It rocks like lilies in a storm | L |
And O its hues are green and gold | B |
- | |
It comes it comes Ah rest is sweet | M |
And there is rest my babe for us | N |
She ceased as at her very feet | M |
Stopp'd the St John's Wood omnibus | N |
