Soracte. - Translations From Horace Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCCB DEED FGGF HIIH JKKJ LMMN

OD iA
-
-
One dazzling mass of solid snowB
Soracte stands the bent woods fretC
Beneath their load and sharpest setC
With frost the streams have ceased to flowB
-
Pile on great faggots and break upD
The ice let influence more benignE
Enter with four years treasured wineE
Fetched in the ponderous Sabine cupD
-
Leave to the Gods all else When theyF
Have once bid rest the winds that warG
Over the passionate seas no moreG
Grey ash and cypress rock and swayF
-
Ask not what future suns shall bringH
Count to day gain whate'er it chanceI
To be nor young man scorn the danceI
Nor deem sweet Love an idle thingH
-
Ere Time thy April youth hath changedJ
To sourness Park and public walkK
Attract thee now and whispered talkK
At twilight meetings pre arrangedJ
-
Hear now the pretty laugh that tellsL
In what dim corner lurks thy loveM
And snatch a bracelet or a gloveM
From wrist or hand that scarce rebelsN
