Shelter Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAABCCB DAEAFFFA GHGGH

By the wide lake's margin I mark'd her lieA
The wide weird lake where the alders sighA
A young fair thing with a shy soft eyeA
And I deem'd that her thoughts had flownB
To her home and her brethren and sisters dearC
As she lay there watching the dark deep mereC
All motionless all aloneB
-
Then I heard a noise as of men and boysD
And a boisterous troop drew nighA
Whither now will retreat those fairy feetE
Where hide till the storm pass byA
One glance the wild glance of a hunted thingF
She cast behind her she gave one springF
And there follow'd a splash and a broadening ringF
On the lake where the alders sighA
-
She had gone from the ken of ungentle menG
Yet scarce did I mourn for thatH
For I knew she was safe in her own home thenG
And the danger past would appear againG
For she was a water ratH
