Play Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAA BAAAACDEAAAAAA

Play play while as yet it is dayA
While the sweet sunlight is warm on the braeA
Hark to the lark singing lay upon layA
While the brown squirrel eats nuts on the sprayA
And in the apple leaves chatters the jayA
Play play even as theyA
What though the cowslips ye pluck will decayA
What though the grass will be presently hayA
What though the noise that ye make should dismayA
Old Mrs Clutterbuck over the wayA
Play play for your locks will grow grayA
Even the marbles ye sport with are clayA
-
Play ay in the crowded highwayA
Was it not made for you Yea my lad yeaA
True that the babes you were bid to conveyA
Home may fall out or be stolen or strayA
True that the tip cat you toss about mayA
Strike an old gentleman cause him to swayA
Stumble and p'raps be run o'er by a drayA
Still why delay Play my son playA
Barclay and Perkins not you have to payA
-
Play play your sonatas in AB
Heedless of what your next neighbour may sayA
Dance and be gay as a faun or a fayA
Sing like the lad in the boat on the bayA
Sing play if your neighbours inveighA
Feebly against you they're lunatics ehC
Bang twang clatter and clangD
Strum thrum upon fiddle and drumE
Neigh bray simply obeyA
All your sweet impulses stop not or stayA
Rattle the bones hit a tinbottom'd trayA
Hard with the fireshovel hammer awayA
Is not your neighbour your natural preyA
Should he confound you it's only in playA
