Sonnet: - Xvi Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEEFGFG

My footsteps press where centuries agoA
The Red Men fought and conquered lost and wonB
Whole tribes and races gone like last year's snowA
Have found the Eternal Hunting Grounds and runB
The fiery gauntlet of their active daysC
Till few are left to tell the mournful taleD
And these inspire us with such wild amazeC
They seem like spectres passing down a valeD
Steeped in uncertain moonlight on their wayE
Towards some bourn where darkness blinds the dayE
And night is wrapped in mystery profoundF
We cannot lift the mantle of the pastG
We seem to wander over hallowed groundF
We scan the trail of Thought but all is overcastG
