Rhyme Scheme: ABABCBDCBDCBEEOh that I were the spirit of these wilds | A |
I'd make the zephyrs dance for my delight | B |
And lead a life as happy as a child's | A |
Echo should tremble with unfeigned affright | B |
And mock its own weird answers I would kiss | C |
Eliza's cheek and touch her lips with dew | B |
Stol'n from the scented rose And Carrie's laugh | D |
Should be a portion of the silver rills' | C |
Sweet music breathed mellifluously through | B |
The hearts of generations She should quaff | D |
The nectar of inspired song and thrills | C |
Of sweet remembrances of her should strew | B |
The woodland air as sand grains strew the shore | E |
And these two hearts should be my joy for evermore | E |
