Glimpses. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAAABBBA CCCAAAAA DEDAFFFA AAA AGGGA AAAABBBA

Sounds of rural life and labourA
Not the notes of pipe and tabourA
Not the clash of helm and sabreA
Bright'ning up the field of gloryA
Can compare with thy ovationsB
That make glad the hearts of nationsB
E'en the poet's fond creationsB
Pale before thy simple storyA
-
In the years beyond our presentC
King was little more than peasantC
Labour was the shining crescentC
Toil the poor man's crown of gloryA
Have we passed from worse to betterA
Since we wove the silken fetterA
Changed the plough for book and letterA
Truest life for tinsel storyA
-
Up the ladder of the agesD
Clomb the patriarchal sagesE
Solving nature's secret pagesD
Kings of thought's supremest gloryA
Eagle winged and sight far reachingF
Are we wiser for their teachingF
Wrangling creeds for gentle preachingF
Falsest life for truest storyA
-
Man is overfraught with cultureA
Virtue early finds sepultureA
While our vices sate the vultureA
-
We misname a bird of gloryA
Life is blindly artificialG
Rarely pass we its initialG
All our aims are prejudicialG
To its earnest simple storyA
-
Hail primeval life and labourA
Martial notes of pipe and tabourA
Gleam of spears and clash of sabreA
Hero march from fields of gloryA
All the thundering ovationsB
Surging from the hearts of nationsB
Poet dreams and speculationsB
Pale before thy simple storyA
